How should Forsteo® (teriparatide) be stored?
Store Forsteo in a refrigerator at a temperature of 2°C to 8°C at all times. If the pen has been left out of the refrigerator, place it back into the fridge and contact us
What are the correct storage conditions for teriparatide?
Store in a refrigerator (2°C – 8°C) at all times. The pen should be returned to the refrigerator immediately after use.1
Do not freeze. Never store the pen in the freezer.2 Avoid placing the pens close to the ice compartment of the refrigerator to prevent freezing.3
Do not store the pen with the needle attached.1
Store the pen with the white cap on to protect the medicine from light and keeps the device safe from damage.2,4
Chemical, physical and microbiological in-use stability has been demonstrated for 28 days at 2-8°C. Once opened, the product may be stored for a maximum of 28 days at 2°C to 8°C.1
What should be done if teriparatide is frozen?
If the medicine has been frozen, the user should throw away the device and use a new pen.2
What should be done if teriparatide is not stored as recommended?
If Forsteo was accidentally exposed to temperatures outside the recommended range of temperature, the user should
- return the pen to the recommended temperature conditions and
- contact us for an assessment to determine if the product is still acceptable to use.
They will be asked to provide the maximum and/or minimum temperature conditions and the total time of exposure outside the approved temperature range.
