Can patients combine Verzenios® (abemaciclib) with food, supplements or alcohol?
Patients can take abemaciclib with or without their meal. We did not evaluate the effect of food supplements, alcohol or fruit other than grapefruits on the efficacy or safety of abemaciclib. Patients should avoid grapefruit products.
Should patients take abemaciclib with or without food?
Patients can take abemaciclib with or without food. It should not be taken with grapefruit or grapefruit juice.1
Patients should take the doses at approximately the same times every day and swallow the tablet whole.1
Can patients combine supplements, like prebiotics, probiotics, or yeast, with abemaciclib?
Eli Lilly and Company (Lilly) did not evaluate if supplements, like prebiotics, probiotics, yeast, or others, affect the safety or efficacy of abemaciclib when combined.2
Patients should avoid any supplements that strongly inhibit or induce CYP3A4.1
Can patients drink alcohol while taking abemaciclib?
Lilly did not evaluate if combining alcohol with abemaciclib affects the efficacy or safety of abemaciclib, or if abemaciclib changes the metabolism of alcohol in breast cancer patients.2
Can patients eat grapefruit or other fruit while taking abemaciclib?
Patients should not consume grapefruit products while being treated with abemaciclib.2 Grapefruit products inhibit CYP3A4 and can increase the plasma concentrations of abemaciclib.1
Lilly did not evaluate the effect of other fruit on the abemaciclib metabolism. Patients should avoid strong CYP3A4 inhibitors and strong CYP3A4 inducers.1
